Peen straightening is the process of selective peening to
form and modify the shape of a distorted component or fabrication to
comply with drawing tolerance.
Where a part has distorted either as a result of
manufacturing process, heat treatment or in service use, peen
straightening can be applied to return that part to its original drawn
limits. It is a highly skilled process which is often employed to
salvage parts that would otherwise be rejected due to non compliance.
Sandwell can also employ similar techniques to improve fits on splines, reduce bore diameters and increase external diameters to bring reject or used parts back into service. Peen straightening can also be combined with shot peening to increase fatigue life of new and used parts.
Parts that have been peen straightened or shot peened can be
further enhanced in service by REM superfinishing and/or protected by
applying one of our paint systems or chemi-blacking.
